Information and Tips – Hurricane Sandy – Preparation

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to send out some storm preparedness information and while it is unclear the path of Sandy, she has the potential to seriously impact the region.

Below my signature is a release from the Mount Vernon Board of Supervisor’s Office which has emergency numbers everyone should keep on hand. At the bottom are links to the County website with up to date information on the storm and preparedness information. If you have not already signed up for the CEAN ( Community Emergency Alert Network) you can do so by following this link: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cean/

Remember, once the storm impacts the region please plan to stay off the roadways and in shelter. As we learned from the Derecho earlier this year, be prepared for extended time without power.

* If you must be on the roads or outside during or after the storm treat all downed lines a “live” and dangerous.
* If you approach an interesection where the traffic signals are without power – please treat it as a four way stop and proceed with caution as other may not.
* Do not drive through standing water on the roadway, you never know how swift it is moving, how deep it is, or the condition of the road underneath the water.

Make a plan to keep in touch with neighbors and identify those who may need help if a emergnecy situation arises. Stay tuned to http://fairfaxcountyemergency.wordpress.com and local media for storm updates.

Be Safe,

Greg

Follow up inspections were conducted in the late fall/early winter 2011. 33 second notice letters were mailed on 12/3/11 to those homeowners who had outstanding violations.

Hearings were held on 1/25/12 for those homeowners who did not respond to ARC’s notices, or receive an extension to complete repair on their outstanding items.

New inspections will be conducted in the spring of 2012. If you are interested in joining ARC, please email the Board or Committee.

A friendly reminder to home owners considering exterior home changes, including trim or door paint, front yard landscaping, fences, decks, sheds, satellite dishes, etc. to fill out an ARC Approval Form before any exterior changes are made. Please email the ARC Members if you have any questions. A list of the ARC Approved Colors and a form to request approval for work on your home are posted in the MWMHOA Yahoo Group page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MWM _HOA/ in the Architectural Review Committee file folder.

Valuables Packages-Provide for Easy Picking

If you are expecting a package to arrive via USPS and other package delivery service companies, make arrangements for it to be secured as soon as possible. Have it delivered to your work address or have the shipping company hold it at their local distribution hub for in person pick-up. You might also ask a trusted neighbor to take it inside soon after delivery.
